Turning Rewards Points into Real-World Purchasing Power

B2C Market Expansion and Multi-Tenant Rewards Platform at Scale

Overview

When a High-Level Business Concept Required Engineering Depth to Become a Market Reality

The client is a leading digital assets and payments platform operating at the intersection of loyalty, card issuance, and real-time transaction processing. As consumer expectations around rewards redemption evolved, the client identified an opportunity to transform how loyalty points translated into real-world purchasing power — enabling seamless, in-the-moment redemption at point of sale rather than through delayed, friction-heavy redemption flows.

The concept was compelling but technically uncharted. Building a loyalty payments product at the intersection of card issuance, digital wallet provisioning, and real-time transaction funding required navigating undocumented APIs, live environment testing constraints, and rigorous PCI DSS compliance obligations — all while delivering a market-ready product on a competitive timeline.

Aziro partnered with the client to transform this high-level business concept into a fully validated, market-ready loyalty payments product. From MVP through to a scalable multi-tenant backend, Aziro delivered the engineering depth needed to turn an untested idea into a patented, commercially successful platform.

Challenges

Complex Integrations and Undocumented Environments Created High Technical Risk

Building a loyalty payments product that operated in real time across card issuance, digital wallet provisioning, and point-of-sale transaction funding required navigating three interconnected engineering challenges, each carrying significant technical, operational, and compliance risk.

  • Undocumented Push Provisioning: Push provisioning to Apple Wallet and Google Wallet was not publicly documented and was unavailable in non-production environments. This made integration testing exceptionally difficult, as Aziro had no sandbox to validate provisioning flows against before going live. Every integration decision had to be made under conditions of limited documentation, with live environment constraints adding significant engineering risk to every milestone on the delivery timeline.

  • Live Environment POC Requirements: Transaction processing proofs of concept required physical POS devices to be shipped to the engineering team in India, along with real payment cards for testing against live acquiring environments. This introduced logistical and operational overhead that no amount of sandbox testing could substitute for. Every POC iteration required real-world conditions, adding complexity and lead time to each development cycle while raising the bar for engineering precision at every stage.

  • PCI DSS Compliance Engineering: The product handled live card data flowing through a complex multi-party stack spanning card issuers, digital wallets, and point-of-sale environments. Ensuring that all card data passing through the system was encrypted in transit and that only tokenized identifiers were stored required rigorous compliance engineering across every layer of the platform. PCI DSS was not a post-build consideration but a foundational design requirement that shaped every architectural decision from day one.

Aziro Solution

From Business Concept to Patented, Multi-Tenant Loyalty Payments Platform

Aziro converted the client's high-level business concept into a fully working solution by delivering multiple proofs of concept, building a production-ready platform, and engineering a scalable multi-tenant architecture that unlocked new markets and attracted enterprise customers post launch.

  • Virtual Card Generation: Aziro built integrations with a leading card issuer processor to generate virtual cards on demand and successfully provisioned digital cards to both Apple Wallet and Google Wallet — navigating undocumented APIs end to end without a non-production environment to rely on. This required reverse-engineering provisioning flows, validating assumptions against live environments, and iterating rapidly under conditions of high technical uncertainty. The result was a fully functional digital card issuance capability that formed the commercial core of the product.

  • In-App Loyalty Messaging: Aziro delivered in-app messaging that displayed a user's loyalty points balance and the equivalent fiat currency value directly within the digital wallet interface, positioned under the card. This gave users real-time visibility into their rewards purchasing power at the moment of transaction — removing the disconnect between points balances and actual spending capability that had characterised legacy redemption models. The feature was central to the product's value proposition and user experience.

  • Multi-Tenant Backend and Mobile SDKs: Following successful MVP delivery, Aziro built a scalable multi-tenant backend architecture enabling any rewards program to integrate the product and offer loyalty payment functionality to their own customer base. Alongside the backend, Aziro delivered Android and iOS SDKs allowing rewards programs to embed the loyalty payment capability directly into their own mobile applications — accelerating time to market for new programme integrations and significantly expanding the commercial reach of the platform.

The commercial outcomes delivered by the platform were significant across every dimension. The client's pipeline grew threefold post launch, driven by substantial enterprise customer interest in the multi-tenant capability. The product's expansion into B2C markets following acquisition opened two entirely new commercial channels that had not existed prior to the platform's delivery. Rewards redemption speed improved by 60% through the just-in-time transaction funding model that replaced the delayed, high-friction redemption flows the client had previously relied upon.

Perhaps most significantly, the Loyalty Pay product concept was awarded a patent following successful MVP delivery — a recognition of the genuine technical and commercial innovation that the platform represented. The multi-tenant architecture and mobile SDK framework meant that the product could be extended to new rewards programme partners rapidly, creating a scalable commercial model that continued to generate value well beyond the initial launch.

The PCI DSS compliance framework engineered into the platform from the ground up also gave the client a competitive advantage in enterprise sales conversations, providing the assurance that regulated industries and large financial institutions required before committing to a loyalty payments integration.
